Pleonexia sees you reeling in fish to ensure that everyone in town gets one every day. However, eating those fish is having some discomforting effects.
CONTENT WARNING: Self-harm, violence, addiction.
The people of this town just can’t get enough of the fish you’re catching. They’re downright addictive. This has made them fairly insistent that they each get a fish every day. They’re pretty alarming in that insistence, with the game’s 1-bit visual style making each person feel inhuman and intense. Every interaction, no matter how cordial, feels loaded with this unspoken promise of danger. Their smiles feel more like sneers. It’s like they’re all gritting their teeth to keep from leaping over the counter and biting your throat. So, what I’m saying is you’re going to want to catch enough fish for these people.
You’re a good fisherman, but catching something isn’t a given when you put your hook in the water. You’ll need to look for dark spots and then try to pull something up from them. Sometimes you get a fish, sometimes you pull up garbage or absolutely nothing. All the while the in-game clock ticks away. As time passes, customers will show up at your hut and events will occur. You need to attend to your customers (hopefully by giving them a fish), but you’ll quickly find it hard to keep up with the demand. You can turn people away at times, but how long do you think these folks will tolerate your inability to feed their needs? How long can they keep from acting on that violence that lies behind their every smile.
Pleonexia exudes menace in its every interaction, and every second that ticks away without landing a fish is an agonizing kind of terror. Which one of these people will finally snap and come for you? And if they don’t, what alarming things will you find about these addictive fish and the reason you’re trapped here?
