Radio Bubble is like a digital message in a bottle, letting you write something and cast it out to the universe. You’ll also receive similar writing in return.
This little device reminds me of times spent watching music visualizers, lava lamps, and other things where colors writhe and dance across their surfaces and interiors. When not in use, this program makes colors play across its surface, offering a soothing sight as it sits in the corner of your screen. While toying with it, I’ve lost a great deal of time just watching the lines of red, green, blue, and white all flit around, swirling and rippling outwards.
When you’ve let that calming sensation settle over you, you can send out a message through the program. It only allows you to compose a single message a day, though. You’re going to want to take some time to figure out what poignant (or silly) thought to put out there. If you only could say one thing to stranger that day, it should be special, right? Hopefully other people are putting in as much thought as you, as you’ll randomly see messages that other people have put out there. It makes for a nice, delightful surprise to see that incoming transmission pop up on the bubble, followed by something fun or heartwarming.
Radio Bubble is an interesting tool to connect us, asking us to really consider what we say when we can only put out a single sentence to the world for the day. It also reminds us of the simple joy that can come from hearing the thoughts of a stranger – of drawing pleasure from reading what others are thinking. Maybe it’s a shared woe, something hopeful, or a little tidbit that makes you laugh that comes bubbling up through the orb’s surface.
Radio Bubble is available now (for whatever you wish to pay for it) on itch.io.
