Risk of Rain 2 brings new bosses, gear, characters, stages, and dimensions to the popular multiplayer roguelike shooter of ever-escalating randomized dangers.
Risk of Rain 2 sends you crashing into a hostile, generated world (with up to three friends). There, you’ll find yourself facing down hordes of aggressive enemies with the weapons you have on hand. Due to the game’s randomized elements, it’s hard to know just what weapons you’ll have when you run into danger, just as you won’t know what sort of dangers you’ll be running into. You’ll have to make clever use of whatever you get, rather than go in with a single preferred strategy.
Like its excellent predecessor, the game features a scaling difficulty level where your foes will grow stronger over the course of the game, keeping up with your new stockpile of found gear. You might have found some neat stuff that will make your life easier, but your enemies are getting tougher by the moment, forcing you to constantly rush to move on before your foes grow too strong.
You have a suite of possible pals to help you out as well. You can find characters hidden in the game’s worlds, unlocking them to use on future runs. Familiar characters can be used, as well as a few new faces that will be in the game alongside its new weapons, gear, and cranky creatures. And some new tracks from audio wizard Chris Christodoulou, composer of the pounding tracks for the original Risk of Rain.
Plus, it’s all in three dimensions, so you can die with depth! Isn’t that a better way to die?
Risk of Rain 2 is available now on Steam Early Access.
