The old fishing hole is looking a bit Silent Hill-ish these days, but don’t let that stop you from having a relaxing (disturbing) time fishing in Rottenwood Lake.
Hop onto your boat and head out into the serene, cloudy waters of the lake to see what you can catch. You’re free to sail about the murky waters, tossing out a line if you think the fish are biting in the spot you’re in. Don’t think about how it looks like you’re floating in a foggy void a lot, or that the land seems to have receded and faded away around you. You totally haven’t slipped into some hazy, frightening world from which you’re unlikely to return. Just try to see where the fish are biting and let yourself unwind.
“It’s not like I’m luring them with my bait. They are calling me and inviting me here to a delightful fishing morning, and I’ll gladly oblige!” This is something a totally normal person would likely say when they’re going fishing in a normal place. Nothing to get too worried about while you’re out casting your line. Just looking for some good eats and a relaxing time on the lake (that happens to have eerie abandoned churches and other strange things you can float by).
Rottenwood Lake isn’t the ideal spot to unwind, for reasons you’ll eventually discover if you spend too much time getting lost within its enveloping gloom. It’s a wonderfully unsettling journey until you do, though, making for a frightening experience for those who worry about the monstrous things that lurk beneath the waves.
Rottenwood Lake is available now (for whatever you wish to pay for it) on itch.io.
