Vi, Kabbu, and Leif are a crew of brave (maybe TOO brave) insects who are out to find a treasured leaf, using their unique abilities to beat bag bugs in turn-based battles.
Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling follows the trio into Bugaria, a continent filled with tiny cities and big dangers. A leaf that helps you live forever is supposed to be somewhere around there, and you need to help this crew find it. Well, that and aid them in navigating all of the trouble they’ll get themselves in along the way. Let’s just say that Vi is one bee who takes no guff from anyone.
The whole crew doesn’t, really. Each of them has some nifty powers that can be used to manipulate the environment, solving puzzles with explosive horns, ice powers (I guess some bugs have these), and a…beemerang. I was thinking more of a stinger attack for Vi, but a boomerang is just as good. Far less likely to die after one attack that way. Anyway, these tools are great for fiddling with puzzling locales, or can also be used in turn-based combat against annoying insects that want to stop your treasure hunt.
Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling definitely draws inspiration from Paper Mario, capturing its charming visuals and sense of humor. The visual and written tone of the game make for a lighthearted adventure, one that will have you smiling at insect hi-jinks for a while.
Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is available now on the Humble Store, itch.io, and Steam.
