SCP – Doki Doki Anomaly is a dating sim that’s just a smidgeon dangerous to play. I’m sure if you’re very, very careful, you’ll find love and not death.
Anyway, being a dating sim involving an SCP (which, if you’ve never read these creepy stories, you may want to give them a shot), you may find yourself being a little nervous trying to impress this new being. While acting cute and loving to someone in a regular dating sim might reward you with getting a bit closer to the person you care for, in this game, you’re never really sure what’s going to happen. Every decision is loaded with a sense of danger because SCPs are not exactly known for being safe to be around. They kind of kill people a lot, and often in strange ways.
So, are you REALLY sure you want to hold hands? You’re not just risking having the person brush you off, here. That kiss might not go so well, either. So, you hesitate, but sometimes that leads you into trouble anyway. Maybe you end up having to play a minigame to save your life because that touching scene didn’t play out the way you imagined in your head. It’s frightening to try to navigate through these conversations with this living, murderous dating sim, which makes for some delightfully tense moments pretty much the entire time you play it.
SCP – Doki Doki Anomaly made for an extremely tense series of conversations as I attempted to keep my life while still romancing a dangerous creature. I’m very interested to see how the devs build on this concept from here.
