Thalia is awake, yet not, trapped in a nightmare coma that she can only free herself from by confronting the monstrous manifestations in her mind.
She Dreams Elsewhere follows Thalia throughout the surreal worlds that her mind has conjured up, dealing with the frightening and absurd beings that have trapped her in permanent slumber. Players will have to literally duke it out with these horrifying visions in turn-based combat, but luckily, the game offers a handful of customizable systems that will let you deal with these creatures in a variety of ways. It’s up to you how to face your nightmares, here.
While these stark beings may stir up a sense of dread, using shadows and darkness to create many an unsettling figure to fight, it’s the discomforting color choice that makes She Dreams Elsewhere seem so dangerous. The mixtures of blues and purples give the place a sense of being in eternal night, with the constant attacks from shadowy creatures giving a sense that the darkness is always coming and always lethal. From a few screens, its developers set a powerful mood that will hopefully create an creepy experience.
Taking players to dark, scary places while encouraging them to think on the nature nightmares and how they hold a mirror up to our daily lives, She Dreams Elsewhere looks to be a frightening, thoughtful title when it releases sometime this year.
She Dreams Elsewhere is currently in development, but you can wishlist it on Steam.
