You learn every single attack that’s used against you in Shiner. Can you figure out which moves to use yourself so that you can get revenge on your bully?
When you’re a bunny-person who has the ability to instantly learn every move ever used on you, it’s hard to believe that they’ve ever been bullied. I guess your fighting abilities had to start somewhere. As unintimidating as your character may look, they adapt to every strike they see in the turn-based battles. Once the fight is over, you add these abilities to your list of possible moves. This might sound like it makes you ridiculously powerful, but our protagonist can only keep four moves in-mind at the same time. You need to equip the right attacks to deal with the wild abilities your opponents will keep bringing to bear on you.
Now, you don’t have a lot of malice toward ALL of your opponents. There’s a ton of wonderful people out there who just happen to be good at stomping anyone who tries to fight them. A good way to learn how they fight is with a little friendly sparring. Not all fights have to be mean-spirited, right? Plus, fighting someone is an interesting way to get to know someone. As such, you’re encouraged to explore the world and get to know the oddball creatures in it. Not only will you make a charming new friend, but they’ll also have a short scuffle with you where you can learn their move. You’ll want to know as many as you can, as the mixtures of moves will be vital for dealing with the most challenging fights at the end of the game.
Shiner is brief, but, well, punchy. It’s a puzzle game mixed with a turn-based RPG, and is filled with fun abilities and great characters to learn them from.
Shiner is available now on Steam.
