SIIMI sees you playing a character that’s supposed to cover themselves in leaves to make themselves look beautiful. But maybe they don’t feel they need to change a thing.
The Mi live with Yggdrami, a sacred tree. To make themselves look good, they try to gussy themselves up with leaves so that they can imitate this beloved tree. Our main character isn’t very good at making herself up like the other Mi, so she’s treated like an outcast. She’s kind of tired of the whole process of covering herself in leaves and trying to keep up with that beauty standard anyway, so she sets off to find some happiness in herself in who she is.
Finding that self-worth involves a journey that will find her meeting new friends and facing the cruel way she’s treated head-on. Things won’t be easy for her as she’s treated poorly for her appearance, but she’ll find ways to start shedding her old, leaf-covered self as she solves puzzles and explores. Each new place, item, and location could help her take some of the leaves away, steadily chipping at the shell that keeps her cheerful smile hidden from the world. It can be challenging to walk with her at times and feel what she’s faced over her appearance, but it’s far more heartwarming to see the good she finds for herself along the way.
SIIMI is a touching look at the ways we’re forced to shape ourselves to meet beauty standards and how these force us to hide who we are. It’s an empowering look at the challenges that await us in shedding these standards, but also at the good that comes when we’re free of them (or as free as one can ever get).
