Sand, surf, a boy, and a … pelican? Storm Boy: The Game turns the 1964 novella of strange friendship into a beautiful interactive experience.
Happening upon some orphaned pelican chicks, a young boy takes on the role of a parent and rescues them from their fate. One particular chick takes a liking to the boy and is given the name Mr. Percival. This begins a playable bond between you and your bird buddy, letting you enjoy this journey between the boy and pelican in the form of a video game.
Players will be able to play as both the Pelican and the Boy in this lighthearted adventure. To keep things upbeat and full of childlike playfulness, the game is packed with mini-games that will hook you, from drawing in the sand to sailing to playing fetch. Personally, I think tossing fish into pelican beaks is at the top of my list, but it’s up to you what games you enjoy playing with your flying pal the most.
Stunning visuals are at the top of the list of Storm Boy‘s retelling of a classic children’s book. It’s a tall order to bring the charm of a book to a video game, but Blowfish Studios does it well with it’s character and level design. Still, what’s best is that exploration of friendship between you and your feathered companion.
Storm Boy: The Game is available on Steam, the App Store, Google Play, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
