I mean, you’ve likely done stranger things to impress someone in a visual novel. Sucker for Love: First Date isn’t asking for much with its sinister rituals.
Your character is kind of into the occult, and after having some visions of some oddly endearing horrors, they set out to carry out a summoning. This ends up miring you with Ln’eta, a “cute cthulhu-like girl” (I really couldn’t think of any other way to phrase it than that). Turns out that she just might like you a bit, although she does have a teensy little request before you get a kiss. Just carry out a few more rituals for her, and you’ll charm your way into her heart. That can’t be too bad, right? Probably won’t have any catastrophic consequences. Especially since the game doesn’t have any scary horror elements in it.
No, this game is mostly about you bumbling your way into these creatures’ hearts, depending on the decisions you make. Ln’eta isn’t the only monstrous gal you can romantically pursue, as date-able versions of the King in Yellow and Nyarlathotep are here as well. And in case you couldn’t tell, the game doesn’t take itself terribly seriously. Expect a lot of silliness as you pursue these potential dates and goof up the various decisions you make along the way. I mean, the world might be consumed by monstrous powers beyond human understanding by the end of it, but at least you’ll all have a few laughs along the way.
Sucker for Love is a ridiculous take on eldritch horror where you’ll MAYBE walk away with a date and your sanity intact. Which beats the usual way things turn out when these creatures show up.
