Tales of Treachery takes you on a wild and dangerous adventure through scary lands, your phone as your only lifeline throughout.
Using mobile phones as controllers, Tales of Treachery first sees you picking your character. At the top of the screen, you’ll get to know if you are a traitor. You see, one of the people within your group is a traitor who can see what happens at the end of events. They want to steer your group into DEATH, so you’ll need to be careful who you trust.
When events happen, you’ll all need to vote on what to do. Helping an old man can end with you being poisoned, brewing potions can make you stronger, and ultimately, you will need to fight a giant beast, so you’ll need the strength of a full party. Which means you need to take care with every decision you vote for.
Often, after large events, you do get the chance to vote to kill someone, but killing someone who is not a traitor really doesn’t help your strength, which is needed to go forward. Fighting off this beast is the goal of the game, not to kill the traitor, so you do want to keep as many people as you can to fight off this final monster.
Tales of Treachery is beautiful voice acted, reading each line of the story perfectly. The visuals are also really lovely, helping bring the narration to life. In the round I played at EGX, I was blown away. This game really felt so polished and well made – I can’t wait for it to be offered around like Jack Box at various house parties. Events are random and so are their outcomes, so replayability shouldn’t be a problem, either!
Tales of Treachery is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can follow its creation on Twitter.
