Twisted camera angles, door opening animations, and monstrous beasts lurking just off screen. The Glass Staircase brings back the unsettling power of PS1/2’s horror greats.
The Glass Staircase has you exploring a rotting English mansion as a number of young women who have found themselves trapped there. They’re all servants of the “Master,” and are expected to do their chores and take their medicine. And maybe ignore the bodies lying around some of the rooms. And the sickening creatures that aim to devour them. Which makes it pretty hard to finish mopping up, really.
You’ll be assisting these women as they solve puzzles and fight back against the things that creep from the shadows. They’ll also need you to be thorough in your search of the mansion, as many important things are well hidden within its deadly halls.
The Glass Staircase uses camera angles and a purposely dated visual style to emulate the feel of PS2 horror titles. It’s looking to create a similar horror experience to many of the games of that era, building a powerful atmosphere as you explore its distorted corridors.
The Glass Staircase is available now on Itch.io.
