Six different game protagonists are your suspects for an imminent crime, and you’ll only reveal the culprit by playing their games in this new title from the creator of Pony Island.
The Hex starts with an ominous call to a barkeep, telling them that someone is planning a murder. It’s unclear who is plotting it, but they are one of the six protagonists who have ventured to this place from various games. You’ll have to figure out who it is by playing as each protagonist and working through a portion of their game, trying varied genres (and mixtures of genres) as you strive to find clues in each game that will give the potential killer away.
From platforming to RPG combat to one-on-one fighting, you’ll move through the memories of each character, but that isn’t all that ties this mystery together. Like Pony Island, The Hex hides deeper mysteries within the halls of the inn, offering a journey into the unsettling and surreal as players seek their answers. Developer Daniel Mullins excels at burying secrets and twisting expectations, and you should expect no different from them this time.
The Hex offers a winding blend of genres and a heaping helping of secrets and surprises, so whatever you expect of it, expect…something else? Expect the unexpected? But doesn’t that make the unexpected the expected?
Just go in blind. In fact, forget you read this. Except for the part where you go get The Hex. Try to remember that part.
The Hex is available for $9.99 on Steam.
