The Impossible Crime (Of Mateo Bonet) is a VR game where you need to figure out how someone got a knife in his back while locked in a room.
This game is played by standing in one place and picking up items throughout the room which can trigger moments. These moments are then played for you, like a look into a different time, giving you more information and context on this mystery.

There is a bit of an intro showing you the greaving widow explaining what happened before you can start picking up objects dotted around the room and see what memories they are connected to. Sometimes the game has one clip per item and other items have more than one on them. These moments show you context of what’s going on, delving into Mateo Bonet’s behavours leading up to the day he died, of his wife before they were dating, of the day they got engaged, and other past memories.
These bits of story show you what’s going on, and over time you will have all of the clues to understand exactly how this crime took place and what went on. Thankfully, the game itself does let you know when you have all of the clues and should be able to solve it. It’s an interesting way of interacting with the story and seeing how it all changes.

There is a panel inside your watch which allows you to see various objects that trigger memories, people within the memories, and the memory clips you’ve unlocked so you can watch it back. If you get stuck while trying to figure out the case, you can thankfully poke through all of your clues easily as you test your theories.
I got the chance to play the demo of The Impossible Crime (Of Mateo Bonet) at BCN Game Fest, where I found the story very interesting. Clearly, it’s a single shot story that’s been well thought about.

The Impossible Crime (Of Mateo Bonet) is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about the game from the developer’s website.
