In The Light at the End of the Ocean, you’ve woken up in a lighthouse with a nasty head injury and few clues as to how you ended up here. Maybe one of these hyper-mysterious inhabitants knows something?
Help is on the way, you’re assured, but this island and its inhabitants all feel a little bit off. Not that they’re necessarily bad people, but folks just seem to be awfully cagey about everything they say. The Lighthouse Keeper is less than helpful in helping you figure out how you got here, but I guess they let you stay here rent-free, so they’re not all bad. The Archivist, another local you can chat with, isn’t terribly helpful, either. Guess you’ll have to roam the island and slowly pry what information you can out of the people you meet. Surely they’ll eventually slip up and give you something if you’re super nice to them.
Not that you have to be. Your time here can go in a handful of different directions, so your mouth might get you into trouble you can’t escape if you say the wrong thing. And given the eerie atmosphere of this place and the people here, maybe you don’t want to invite too many extra problems your way if you don’t have to. Still, if you get to know these people, you might all learn some handy things about one another that will make coexisting a bit easier.
The Light at the End of the Ocean offers a compelling character mystery, steadily unveiling layers of personality as you learn tidbits about each person. It’s terribly interesting to figure out the stories of these people, so why not take a little amnesiac island vacation to see what you can discover?
