The Rabbit Haul mixes farming and crop tending with battling and tower defense, creating a unique, yet adorable, game.
Some farming games focus on farming, but more and more are we seeing unique combinations of farming and fighting! In this game, you can spend your day tending to your crops, adding different items to your farm and selling things to make a bit of extra gold. Many of the decorations that you put on your farm can be upgraded with a bit of cash and help you in the nighttime.
Your main goal during the daytime is to grow your food reserve, which will in turn help your town. The town itself has gone to shambles, and growing the food will help rebuild the economy and assist the townsfolk there. However, keeping your food reserve intact is the real challenge.
At night, trash pandas make their way to your camp and start trying to steal your tasty haul. They come in waves of increasing difficulty and need to be fought off. You’ll need to place decorations in strategic locations and fight yourself to ensure your food storage stays strong.
You do get to decide when night falls in The Rabbit Haul, which does take the intensity down a notch and you can spend however long you want farming. There is also a large area to explore with different treasures to discover and characters that have little quests to keep you busy. When you’re done exploring and ready to defend, you can then trigger night.
I found The Rabbit Haul to be cute but challenging in the little time I had with the demo during Gamescom this year. It’s one of those games that feels more difficult than it looks, but it doesn’t feel like it is pressuring you too much, though.
The Rabbit Haul is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
