The Void Between does its best to ruin your time off by setting reality askew and making you solve strange puzzles.
Miraculously, the main character has actually been allowed to take time off at work and has gone on a dream holiday in this FMV-style adventure game. Unfortunately, this trip has turned into something like a nightmare as they wander through a world filled with strange happenings and hallucinations that you cannot quite explain.

I played a demo of the game at Develop: Conference that started by showing me a hallway inside an average house. This might have been the middle of the game (I am not quite sure) but it seemed mysterious. Some stuff was just feeling off around the protagonist. Things just didn’t look quite right.
There were a bunch of little puzzles placed here and there, from paintings on the wall to the way that rooms opened up. Sometimes, these puzzles triggered flashbacks. Other times, they ended up being distorted, strange memories. What I saw of the game intrigued me as it carefully wove an eerie story. The puzzles weren’t overly challenging and didn’t take away from the vibes, either.
As it turns out, one of the developers of this game is also writing a book which contains the story that The Void Between follows. These two pieces of media are meant to complement each other, so they were also showing off sections of the book to give more depth and meaning to the game itself. I was very interested in playing more of the game outside of the chaos of a games showcase, as everything felt extremely polished and interesting.
The Void Between is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can grab a demo of the game or add it to your wishlist on Steam.
