Elsa’s college friends have come to visit her home, yet find themselves trapped by a freak storm, and their own emotional challenges, in The Window Box.
CONTENT WARNING: Implied emotional abuse, implied suicide attempt
Having your old pals over for a day in the city sounds pretty nice, but it doesn’t take long for things to go awry in the stunning The Window Box. A storm traps the five women inside, forcing them to find their own means of passing the time as they wait for the weather to subside. This leads to conversation, with the close friends slowly opening up about the problems in their lives as the wind roars outside.
The Window Box shifts through various play mechanics and conversation sequences as you delve into your friends’ lives. With puzzles and play, you can help unravel the various issues these women are facing, and even if you don’t come up with a direct solution to their plight, you can at least offer them a comforting ear that can make a big difference.
With a mixture of silly and serious moments (you escape a soufflé for some reason?!), as well as a gorgeous art style, The Window Box offers some touching times, and a reminder that maybe it’s time you checked in on your own old friends. Things may seem all right with them, but perhaps they could use a quiet chat with their own dear friend to help unravel the problem in their lives as well.
The Window Box is available now on Steam.
