Set in Brazil before colonization, Tropicalia sees you guiding a Guarani warrior in his journey to save his girlfriend from Tau, a demigod from folklore.
Why sinister demigods and other villains need everyone’s dates, I’ll never know. Is it hard to find a potential partner when you’re always up to villainous stuff? Can’t you just surf some dating sites while you’re on the toilet or something? I’m sure you’d manage to find someone who was interested in having incredible power that had a penchant for kidnapping. It might not be easy, but it’d definitely be more fulfilling than taking someone else’s girlfriend. It’s not like she’s going to fall for you for your kidnapping skills, buddy. Better to just work on being more social.
Anyway, this game is an ode to classic RPGs, so expect some turn-based combat against nasty Brazilian wildlife and a bunch of monster from Guarani mythology. Which is something I always love seeing, since we’re terribly used to seeing the same handful of monsters from a few European mythologies. Spice it up! Give me some new horrible creature to be scared of when I’m trying to use the bathroom at night. Plus, this game uses timing-based attacks, which is something that instantly increases my attachment to an RPG. I love being involved in smacking foes more directly.
Tropicalia also offers some crafting to make yourself neat new tools, some fishing to gather food and help you relax, and a bit of swimming to beat the intense heat. Just don’t get too relaxed enjoying these activities, as you have an unhealthy connection to break up. Tau really needs to learn to find his own dates, honestly.
Tropicalia is available now on Steam Early Access.
