Move over Fire Emblem, we’ve got a new contender in the ring of turn-based strategy. And they have dogs in armor!
Wargroove is everything you want and need in a strategy game, and if you are left wanting, you can even make your own maps. And cutscenes. And secrets. Need I go on?
At just a glance, Wargroove is definitely a game to add to your shelf. The lively and charming pixel art animations, the design of each commander, and did I mention the dogs?! Players will be able to choose from 12 different commanders in combat, each with their own unique special move (‘Groove’), motivations, and personality. Each commander can utilize their Groove by filling a meter, but not all meters fill with the same actions. You’ll have to pay attention to which commander you’ve chosen and make sure you’re performing the right actions to get your turn’s worth.
In the campaign mode, players will be following a queen forced to flee from home. Without anyone to protect her, she will have to venture through different kingdoms in hopes of bringing allies to her side. Journeying across the world will bring about many challenges and encounters against the four warring factions including Cherrystone Kingdom, Heavensong Empire, Felheim Legion, and the Floran Tribes. These enemies are always hot on her trail, so she’ll have to learn a thing or two about tactics along the way.
If you’ve beaten the campaign and want more, you can even build your own levels. Wargroove gives you all the tools you’ll need to create everything from ambushes to how cutscenes play out. Play your own level with friends and watch them fall for every trap, or try your friends’ levels and fall for theirs. Then maybe you’ll be the fifth warring faction!
Wargroove is an excellent new addition to any strategists’ shelf, and is sure to provide hours upon hours of unforgettable fun.
Wargroove is available on Steam, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch. A PlayStation 4 version is coming soon.
