Unfolded : Camellia Tales, set on Jeju Island in 1948, follows Herman as he tries to survive and help others through the horrors of the Jeju Uprising.
You may only be a child, but there’s some things you can do to help your family and friends, as well as the survivors who are hiding in a cave. This means looking around for items, which you can combine to make useful tools, as well as talking with the various people you meet along the way. These are dangerous times that may force you to grow up pretty fast, but Herman feels the need to help these folks in whatever way he can.
Setting the game against such a dark backdrop might make it sound very depressing, and to an extent it is, but it’s also a surprisingly hopeful and upbeat tale. It may follow the events of a grim piece of history, but it’s told from the perspective of a child doing everything he can to help. One who just cares for the people around him. A kid that’s keeping a journal of events and poems, looking to preserve his view of the events and pass them onto future generations so they aren’t forgotten and repeated. It’s a hopeful tale about resilience in monstrous times, and about the importance of the good we do for others, no matter how small.
Unfolded : Camellia Tales offers a stirring look at some cruel times that we need to remember, all through the touching viewpoint of a caring child.
