We should talk. explores the power of your word choice as you chat about your relationship with friends and strangers at a local bar.
You’re out on the town with a lot on your mind. It would probably feel good to talk with some people about what’s going on in your life. Maybe a few texts with your partner aren’t a bad idea, either. Still, it’s all in how you choose to say things to each of these people that will guide how your night and the story goes. This isn’t a simple decision about what sentence to say in reply to each question, though, but rather a complete structuring of your sentence through word choice.
If you’ve ever communicated with other human beings before, you already know just how vital your word choice can be in conveying what you actually want to say. Whether you’re upset about something or you just have complex feelings about it, sometimes the wrong word in a certain situation can bring a whole lot of mayhem and hurt. A single turn of phrase could make you sound angry, or that you’re blaming someone, or that you don’t really care about the subject. It can turn your whole meaning on its head depending on who you’re talking to, so each sentence needs to be put together with care.
We should talk. uses a sentence-building mechanic to mimic these challenges in communication, reminding us how meaning can get lost despite our best intentions, or how we can devastate those we love with a single careless phrase. It’s looking like a striking exercise in how we speak with one another, and I’m definitely intrigued to see it come together.
We should talk. is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can support its creation on Kickstarter or add it to your Steam Wishlist.
