Even the most simple hits can have some complications, as the overly-confident and overly-competent protagonist in point and click assassin game Badass Inc discovers.
If I say Motion Twin these days, then most people will instantly think of Dead Cells, the multi-award winning action-metroidvania which is currently available on almost every platform under the sun. However, before Dead Cells, there was Badass Inc, a prototype born out of Ludum Dare 32 which ranked 2nd place in the judging.
Badass Inc is a half hour long prototype which has players controlling a feline assassin in a moody, dark future. Controls sidestep between a cover shooter and a point and clicker, although the latter is less the pointing as the character moves toward objects to interact with them. Traditional verbs are out, with Look, Interact, and Use Inventory managing to deliver the usual level of comedy expected from the genre. The dark setting certainly pokes its head through every so often, though.
As a short thirty minute experience, Badass Inc is a great little prologue for a longer game. However, with the success of Dead Cells, which itself was a mutation of a wave defense game, Motion Twin may have moved away from the genre for good.
Regardless of whether the developers do actually return to the game in future, it is a fun little run and it doesn’t really push it with the inventory management. Give it a play.
A prototype for Badass Inc available now on Itch.io.
Reminds me a bit of Gemini Rue.
Oh! that’s very on the nose. I wonder if it was more or less action oriented.
