Marupoyo is a tilt-based platformer that’s aimed at being friendly enough for younger children to play but challenging enough for those who aren’t young children to play around with and try to achieve all that there is to achieve.
The levels are single-screen, challenging players to tilt their controller so that the little round chick rolls around, without falling into the water or lava, and collect corn until they make it to the end. There is a child-friendly mode that adds a bunch of clouds over the dangers, so that children cannot actually fall in.

If you aren’t in child-friendly mode, however, you will be watching your rolls carefully and making sure that you are taking on the hazards as they come. There is little twists like gusts of wind, moving blocks, and mushrooms that bounce you, so there is a lot of challenge as you figure it out and move through the 120 vibrant levels. There are even different chicks that you can rescue, which dance and laugh, giving you bits of the story to follow.

These different chicks can later be ones that you play as, so that you can become these siblings of yours, who were once lost. I like the variety in the different skins and the little bits of story that are unlocked as you continue to play through the game. I do also feel the tilt controls just work perfectly with Marupoyo – the game is really made around this concept, so it will be neat to see how it works on Nintendo Switch in the future.
I got the chance to play a demo of Marupoyo at Gamescom. There isn’t a set release date, but for now you can wishlist the game on Steam.
