It has been over ten years since the world was blessed with the delightfully absurd basketball RPG Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden. Now, a demo has surfaced to give us all hope for the sequel.
The Magical Realms of Tír na nÓg: Escape from Necron 7 – Revenge of Cuchulainn: The Official Game of the Movie – Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa (Barkley 2) finds you playing as a wise youngster who’s just awoken from a B-Ball induced coma. You’re on a space ziggurat held captive by a malevolent AI, and you’re looking for the Cyberdwarf, a being who can reveal your past and future. It’s kind of ridiculous, but as a follow-up to a game about the aftermath of the Chaos Dunk, and the fifteen million killed by this basketball move, it’s bound to be. Plus, I mean, look at that title.
Things have been pretty quiet about Barkely 2 for some time (its Kickstarter ended in 2012), but this demo should have all of the true DOOM-MURDER HEADS out in droves. Which probably makes for a dangerous time. The demo, by the developer’s own admission, is quite buggy and contains many things that won’t be in the final game. Still, it’s nice to see that the game is still being worked on, and us lovers of absurd basketball humor once again have something to celebrate.
The demo for The Magical Realms of Tír na nÓg: Escape from Necron 7 – Revenge of Cuchulainn: The Official Game of the Movie – Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa is available now on itch.io.
